Workshop Description
Adapting to a new city and academic environment can be both a challenge and an opportunity. This workshop is open to all members of the university community—Bachelor, Master, PhD students, and Fellows—who wish to strengthen their integration into Heidelberg’s University City. It is designed not only for international newcomers but also for those who, despite having spent more time in Heidelberg, still feel unfamiliar with the opportunities available.
Over the course of three hours (including two short breaks), participants will receive structured guidance and practical advice in the following areas:
- Physical and mental health: healthcare services, counseling, and well-being resources.
- Hobbies, socialising, and sports: cultural, recreational, and athletic opportunities to enrich daily life.
- Scholarships and financial funding: information on available funding schemes and support structures.
- Transportation: navigating public transport, private mobility, and cycling in Heidelberg.
- Language learning and tandems: resources for language acquisition and intercultural exchange.
- Insurance and housing support: guidance on health, liability, and other insurance options, as well as consultation for renting apartments.
In addition to providing practical knowledge, the workshop creates a platform for networking—connecting participants with peers, sharing experiences, and fostering a sense of belonging.
Whether you are just beginning your studies, pursuing advanced research, or continuing your academic career, this workshop will equip you with tools, insights, and connections to thrive both personally and academically in Heidelberg.
